MEASURE 1. Number of generated distribution points for Amazonian priority species

ISSUE

Knowledge regarding the distribution of Amazon priority species within the priority landscapes.

DEFINITION


Distribution points registered within the Amazon priority landscapes for the proposed suite of Amazonian Priority Species: jaguar (Panthera onca), Andean bear (Tremarctos ornatus), white-lipped peccary (Tayassu pecari), lowland tapir (Tapirus terrestris), giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), pirarucu (Arapaima gigas), black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), and Species Groups: giant migratory catfish, threatened Amazonian cracids, threatened Amazonian primates and freshwater turtles.

RESULTS

Data for this measure was summarized from pre-1999 to 2015 and a total of 27,707 distribution points were reported for the Amazonian priority species.  The results include:
- 994 records for jaguars
- 397 records for Andean bear
- 3,992 records for white-lipped peccary 
- 784 giant otter records
- 53 black caiman records
- 291 records for pirarucu
- 2,297 lowland tapir records
- 1,147 records for giant migratory catfish
- 3,308 threatened Amazonian cracids
- 13,469 records for threatened Amazonian primates
- 282 records for freshwater turtles.
