Abstract
The Short-eared Owl is classified as a species of special concern by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) but research has been focused on southern ranges and the species has received little attention in arctic regions. This paper summarizes the nesting behavior, food habits, and interspecific interaction of Short-eared Owls (Asio flammeus) within an arctic tundra raptor community on Herschel Island and Komakuk Beach, northern Yukon, Canada. These results aim to broaden the general understanding of factors limiting the population dynamics of this raptor in the northerly portions of its range and to discuss implications for conservation.
