Title
Success Story - Afghanistan's First National Park
Author(s)
US Agency for International Development
Abstract
USAID Afghanistan and its implementing partner WCS have been working with the Afghan Government since 2006 to earn official National Park status for Band-e-Amir in central Bamyan. On 22 April 2009, all of these efforts finally came to fruition with the formal declaration of Band-e-Amir National Park by Afghanistan's National Environmental Protection Agency. However, this was only the beginning. WCS has been working hard over the past couple of years to ensure the new Park is managed effectively and benefits Afghanistan in the way it should. This press release summarizes the work and charts progress to-date.
