Title
Wakhi Livestock in Big Pamir in 2006
Author(s)
Ostrowski, S.
Published
2007
Abstract
During 2006, the WCS Ecosystem Health Team conducted two surveys in the Wakhan District in order to collect detailed information and data on the Wakhi livestock within the Big Pamir. The Team carried out interviews among the local Wakhi households and collected data from direct observations, clinical examinations and sampling. This work enabled WCS to establish which grazing practices were in operation within the Big Pamir, the size of the summer and winter pastures and livestock densities, livestock health issues through the seasons and the potential for direct and indirect transmission of diseases to wildlife, particularly the Marco Polo sheep.
