Abstract
Coarctation of the aorta was associated with chronic cerebral infarction and atrophy in a young adult male lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla). Aortic obstruction resulted in chronic cerebrovascular disease and lesions compatible with hypertension, including arteriosclerosis of the circle of Willis and acute and chronic ischemic changes in the cerebrum. Clinical signs developed at 7 years of age as progressive left focal seizures, eventually culminating in status epilepticus.
