Abstract
The Chingaza Massif, made up of majestic forests and moorlands that fulfill invaluable functions, such as regulating the water supply and providing habitat for many endangered species, is an important part of the home of the Andean Bear. This area, whose protection depends largely on the National Natural Parks, regional parks and other protected areas, as well as the will of the people who live there, has been the source of important research that enriches knowledge about the natural history and ecology of the species. Today, in the Chingaza Massif the bear is present in the departments of Cundinamarca, Meta and Boyacá, with an approximate area of 2,470 km2, of which 1,225 km2 are protected.
