Abstract
The Central African oyan Poiana richardsonii (Thomson, 1842) is a nocturnal and arboreal genet‐like carnivore (Van Rompaey & Colyn, 2013 ). It has a wide distributional range, known to be present from Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon east to the Rift Valley in lowland and montane forests (Gaubert & Do Linh San, 2015 ). The Central African oyan is considered Least Concern with an unknown population trend according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. We captured photographic evidence of the presence of this species in Rwanda for the first time and suggest that its range extends further east than previously thought.
