Abstract
Among the 1,435 birds present in Bolivia, the Andean condor (Vultur gryphus Linnaeus, 1758) of the Cathartidae family, faces threats throughout its range in the Andes, such as the decline of its population as a result of habitat loss, hunting, conflicts related to predation of young domestic livestock, as well as increasing numbers of feral dogs. Together with a scarcity in health research, these threat put this iconic species at risk. In the present study, we performed the diagnosis of the louse Colpocephalum trichosum Harrison, 1916 (Family Menoponidae, Suborder Mallophaga, Order Phthiraptera), of a free-living female condor individual who was found injured in the municipality of Palca and rehabilitated at the Vesty Pakos Municipal Zoo, prior to its subsequent release and reintroduction. This represents the first Bolivian record of parasites in the Andean condor.
