MEASURE 5. Number of key wildlife species with basic field-based health information

ISSUE

Knowledge regarding key wildlife health in the Amazon.

DEFINITION

Basic field-based health information is defined as anything from reports of disease outbreaks to recorded or suspected mortality events, or species from which samples have been collected specifically for health/disease diagnosis (ie. infectious disease serology, parasitology, etc.). This is limited to key wildlife species such as that contribute substantially to the forest/ecosystem’s wellbeing and/or to human livelihoods.

RESULTS

Some date exists for 101 Amazonian wildlife species in Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, and demonstrate recent advances in this Measure and can be largely attributed to the investment through dedicated funding streams.
