Abstract
The Agropastoralism and Transhumance Strategy recognizes that the long-term conservation of the Sudano-Sahel’s biodiversity depends on the resilience, rights, and participation of pastoralist and farming communities. Facing escalating pressures from climate change, land-use change, insecurity, and conflict, the strategy proposes an integrated, landscape-scale approach that links conservation, pastoral livelihoods, One Health, conflict mitigation, and governance. Building on WCS’s presence across Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and the Central African Republic, it provides a framework for strengthening ecological connectivity, protecting wildlife, supporting sustainable rangeland management, and fostering coexistence between people and protected areas.
