Abstract
Between the 10th and 24th May 2003, the Wildlife Conservation Society’s South Pacific Marine Program, together representatives from Conservation International and the local Namena Reef Conservation Group, conducted preliminary surveys of the reefs of Vatu-i- Ra/Lomaiviti aboard the dive boat, Nai’a. The main purpose of this expedition was to provide a preliminary assessment of the status and conservation potential of marine ecosystems in the region, as well as to provide data specific to guide the development of a marine reserve network for the Vatu-i-Ra/Lomaiviti reefs.
